Child moving in Perplexiplex interactive room at Meow Wolf Denver Convergence Station

Meow Wolf Denver Review: Is Convergence Station Worth It?

If you’ve been trying to figure out what Meow Wolf Denver actually is and still feel confused, I see you. I understand you. I was too. An immersive art museum sounded… fine? I pictured art on walls, maybe some lights, maybe things moved a little. That is absolutely not what this is.

I wanted to have a sense of what the experience was like before buying tickets, because once you’re inside, it’s not something you can easily describe to someone who hasn’t been.

This location is officially called Meow Wolf Denver Convergence Station, but most people just refer to it as Meow Wolf Denver.

What This Review Covers (So You Know What You’re Getting)

• You explore freely with no set path
• You can spend anywhere from 1 to 4+ hours
• The story is optional
• It’s very interactive and sensory-heavy

What Is Meow Wolf Denver?

Meow Wolf Denver Convergence Station is part of the larger Meow Wolf universe, which started in Santa Fe in 2008 as a small collective of artists experimenting with immersive, collaborative art.

That collaborative approach is still the foundation today. There are full-time artists on staff working across sculpture, fabrication, digital art, writing, sound, film, and more. Each location also prioritizes collaboration with local artists, which helps explain why everything feels layered, detailed, and very unique.

Current Meow Wolf locations

  • Denver, CO (Convergence Station)
  • Houston, TX (Radio Tave)
  • Grapevine, TX (The Real Unreal)
  • Santa Fe, NM (House of Eternal Return)
  • Las Vegas, NV (Omega Mart)

Upcoming locations

  • New York, NY
  • Los Angeles, CA

The Denver location is called Convergence Station, if you hear it called by that name.

Why people are confused before going

I was confused even after reading reviews and looking at photos.

The building itself is warehouse-sized. When you first walk in, you’ll likely notice a dark room where people keep going in and out. We wandered in there first and stayed a long time.

The Perplexiplex

It’s blacked out, with a DJ-looking booth and music playing. The walls and floors are fully interactive. Light flows up the walls, across the floor, and reacts to your movement. Walk through it and the lights follow you. Move your arms and the visuals respond. Every few minutes, the entire scene changes. One minute it feels like you’re walking through paint, the next like water, then suddenly it’s glowing shapes and stars.

This room was so cool, if the whole place were just rooms like this, I’d still go. The key is projection mapping and this room is also used for things like cosmic yoga, film screenings and shows, and private events and gatherings.

The Four Levels

After that, you’re directed to an elevator and dropped onto one of four floors. There’s no map you need to study and no correct direction to go. You’re just released into the space.

There are more than 70 rooms filled with things you can sit in, climb into, crawl through, open, and interact with. Fake convenience stores. Vans you can sit inside. Caves and tunnels. Payphones you can call for free that ring elsewhere in the building.

That’s when it clicked for me. This doesn’t feel like an art museum. It feels like stepping into a physical video game world.

The core idea behind Convergence Station

The story, if you want it, centers around a cosmic event called the Convergence. Four distinct worlds collided into one place, and their inhabitants lost their memories.

You’re not handed this story in a neat summary. You find pieces of it through objects, recordings, symbols, and little details scattered everywhere. You can follow it closely or completely ignore it.

First Impressions: Walking Into Convergence Station

One of the employees told us something right at the beginning that stuck with me the entire visit: touch everything.

If you’re not sure what something is, move it. Open it. Push it. Try it.

That advice worked a little too well.

Later on, my daughter spotted what looked like a fire extinguisher mounted on the wall and immediately went to play with it. I froze for a second and had that split-second panic of, wait… is this part of the art or are we about to set off an alarm?

Turns out that one was very real, clearly marked, and definitely not part of the experience. Close call.

But that moment sums up Meow Wolf Denver perfectly and that’s part of what makes it so fun.

The space is intentionally dim in places, but never so dark that you can’t see. Lights come from everywhere. Walls glow. Floors shimmer. Every corner has something happening. I have never seen so much creativity contained in an area.

The Story & Worlds

Yes, there is a story.

If you’re someone who loves puzzles and putting pieces together, you can go deep. There are symbols to recognize, recordings to listen to, and connections to make across rooms and floors.

For us, it was a first visit and we were overwhelmed in a good way. We followed bits of the story when we stumbled into them, but mostly wandered and explored.

You do not need to follow the story to enjoy the experience. Kids especially may not even realize there’s a larger narrative happening. The story elements just feel like part of the environment.

How Long Does Meow Wolf Denver Take?

This is one of the most important things to know before you go.

  • Quick walkthrough: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Casual exploring: 2 to 4 hours
  • Story-focused visit: 3+ hours

We were casual explorers and spent about four hours. We still felt like there was so much more to see and we wished we planned for a little more time. Who would’ve thought we’d want to spend 4+ hours in an “interactive art museum”.

There is no “time limit” other than operating hours. Tickets are day passes even if you save money and choose an entry time.

One important thing to know: you cannot leave and re-enter. Once you exit, that’s it. The good news is there are restrooms on every floor and places to buy food and drinks inside.

Is Meow Wolf Denver Worth It?

Short answer: yes.

I went thinking this was mostly for my nine-year-old daughter and my husband. I expected to walk around, appreciate the creativity, and maybe get bored.

That didn’t happen.

The visuals pull your attention whether you want them to or not. Every few steps there’s something new to look at, touch, or explore. It’s very easy to lose track of time.

Who will love it

  • Families with kids
  • Adults who enjoy exploring and discovering things
  • People who prefer experiences over passive activities

Who might not

  • Anyone who struggles with busy, sensory-heavy environments
  • People expecting a traditional museum experience

Repeat visit value

We would absolutely go back. We’ve even talked about planning a trip specifically to visit another Meow Wolf location. I wouldn’t mind seeing all of them.

Tickets, Prices & How to Save Money

Ticket prices vary by date and demand, but here’s a general idea of what to expect.

  • Choose a date and entry time
  • Starts around $36
  • Child tickets start lower

  • Visit anytime on your chosen date
  • Starts around $46

There are occasional promotions listed directly on Meow Wolf’s website. In my experience, promo codes exist, but i wouldn’t count on them. If you catch one, great. If not, the experience easily gives you your money’s worth.

Meow Wolf Denver With Kids: A Parent’s Guide

This is one of the best attractions we’ve done with a kid. We tend to prioritize experiences that work for both kids and adults, especially when traveling as a family.

Ages: Honestly, 1 to 100+. Toddlers love the lights. Older kids explore nonstop. Teens pretend they’re too cool and then disappear into secret rooms.

Sensory considerations:
It’s not constantly loud, but it is visually busy. Some exhibits make sudden sounds. If your child gets overwhelmed easily, plan for breaks.

Is it scary?
Not really. There are aliens and surreal elements, but nothing meant to be horror-like. That said, kids can surprise you, so trust your instincts.

Food, Drinks & Merch Inside Meow Wolf

You won’t go hungry or thirsty inside Meow Wolf Denver, and you don’t have to leave early just to eat.

There are food and drink spots throughout the building, including bars that serve themed cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options. It’s not fine dining, but it’s more than just a vending machine situation. Think snacks, small bites, and drinks that fit the overall vibe of the space.

Current options: Tacos, nachos, chicken strips, mac and cheese, tots, salted pretzel, breakfast burrito, fountain drinks, coffee drinks including cold brew, draft Dry Dock Sour and Modelo, can Coors Banquet, NA Mash Gang IPAs, High Noon seltzers, and Chardonnay/Cabernet.

For adults, being able to grab a drink and keep exploring is actually a nice touch. It keeps the experience relaxed and makes it feel less like a quick attraction and more like somewhere you can settle into for a while.

Food-Focused Planners: I’ll admit it. Food and drink options sometimes factor into our overall view of travel attractions visited. If you’re the same way, The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one attraction where the fresh food, drinks, and treat options actually stood out and enhanced the whole experience.

The merch, though, is (pun intended) out of this world! Unique, quirky, and super fun.

This isn’t generic gift shop stuff. We all ended up buying hoodies, and I get asked about mine constantly. Most of the time, people have no idea what it is, but love the bright weird design. Recently, I got my first “Hey, I love Meow Wolf!” comment at Lowe’s and I was so happy I didn’t have to try to figure out the words to explain about the greatness of Meow Wolf.

Parking, Location & Nearby Food

Meow Wolf Denver is not downtown. It’s west of downtown near the stadium area and very easy to drive to.

Address: 1338 1st St, Denver, CO 80204

On-site parking is limited and paid, with overflow and garage options nearby, including the 5th Street Parking Garage. Parking demand increases on Denver Broncos game days.

Nearby food options worth the drive

My favorite choice is about 15 minutes away, but worth the drive: Culinary Dropout. It has something for everyone. Our favorites: Crispy Brussels Sprouts with gochujang, Crispy Chicken Katsu, and Pepperoni & Italian Sausage pizza.

Other close options (driving):

Where to Stay Near Meow Wolf Denver

If you’re visiting Denver specifically to see Meow Wolf, staying somewhere central makes it easy to combine this with other attractions.

We stayed at The Curtis Hotel Denver (see my review here), which was actually the most unique hotel stay I’ve ever experienced with themed floors. It’s centrally located in downtown and close to some really great food and attractions.

If you’re still deciding where to stay, this is one of those places that doesn’t require being within walking distance. Driving or rideshare is easy, so choosing a hotel that fits your style and budget matters more than proximity.

If you want to compare locations based on budget, walkability, or points options, this map makes it easy to see everything at once.

Packing It Up: My Meow Wolf Denver Review

Meow Wolf Denver ended up being one of the most surprising experiences we’ve had as a family. It’s hard to describe, which is frustrating and also kind of the point. You won’t be able to fully explain it to friends later. You’ll just tell them to go.

If you enjoy exploring, being curious, and stepping into something completely different, Meow Wolf Denver Convergence Station is worth it. We’d go again without hesitation, and we’re already talking about which location to visit next.
